School Re-Entry
NRC Feldman and Associates Inc. helps individuals with an acquired brain injury and other neurological impairments return to school at their optimal level. Educational institutions may include elementary schools, high schools, colleges, universities, apprenticeship programs or post-secondary self-study programs. We use a client-centred systems approach to address our clients’ needs in order to help them achieve their potential with new learning. Our school re-entry model incorporates the diverse and complementary skills of occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, vocational counsellors, social workers, physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists, tutors, rehabilitation support workers, clients and teachers.
Interventions:
- Advocacy.
- Assistance with arranging academic modifications to accommodate needs.
- Assistance with the development of Individual Educational Plans.
- Course work is used to provide the context for cognitive therapy, communication therapy, occupational therapy, and social work.
- Development of a supportive learning environment.
- Ergonomic assessment, training and modifications.
- Incorporation of peer relationships, where appropriate.
- Provide psychosocial / behavioural counselling.
- Supervision of tutors, attendant care providers/ personal support workers and rehabilitation support workers.
